In Term 2 our school's inquiry topic was about 'Magic Movies'. Here is a trailer of our movies we made throughout Term 2.

Manaiakalani Film Festival-School Is Cool

In Term 2 we were learning a lot about movie magic, and how movies can influence our world. We created many movies. We started by brainstorming key messages we could include in our movies. 

We also made a movie that explains how to plant kumara. It was really fun to do. We created this movie to inspire people to learn how to grow their own kumara.


Our movie for The Manaiakalani Film Festival is called 'School Is Cool'. We made it to share all of the cool learning and fun that we have at school.

Our movie was also shown at the Tamaki Primary Academy Awards. We created a PMI about Movie Magic and shared what we liked, what was challenging and interesting.

Guy Fawkes

One cold chilly night, as i was waiting for my parents to come back from the warehouse.I felt a chill from the wind and i felt goose bumps.My mum and dad finaly came back i was itching to look what was inside the box.Then we went outside to light my first firework.My dad lit the firework and i could already taste the smoke and the gun pader from the firework.As we were about to light up our secound firework i could already hear all the other fireworks.THey were loud but one sould like a real bom.I could smell the smoke from the firework and and i could smell the meat being cooked from the B.B.Q.Then we had to go back inside and we had a drinkand it was the best day ever.

Positives

What did you like about this term’s unit?
  • Using a camera.  
  • Having the opportunity to edit a movie. Some of us are now confident to edit a movie and are now going to be helping our teacher edit T.P.S News.

  • Working as a group to plan our movies.  
  • This unit helped us build stronger relationships with each other especially when we were working as a group to produce and edit our movies.  
  • Speeches! - doing and preparing a speech helped developed our presenting skills. 
  • We have become confident in sharing our ideas without being shy. 
  • Learning about movie making equipment like the tripod, imove programme, flip cam etc.  
  • Enjoyed learning about the movie making process - brainstorming, planning, script writing, storyboarding, filming, editing, presenting.  
  • Learning about the different effective camera shots.  
  • MAKING A MOVIE! 
  • Everyone in our class was in a movie.
  • Finishing the movie off with a whole school Academy awards. This made us feel very proud of our hardwork! We felt like REAL professional film makers.
  • Our whanau and friends being proud of us - they really appreciated our movies.
  • We have definitely expanded our knowledge about movie making and have developed good movie making skills that we want to share with others. We look forward to continuing our Movie Magic journey and learning more fun ways to extend our movie making skills.

What challenges did you have with this unit? 
  • Waiting for our turn to film because there was only one flip-cam and a tripod.  
  • We had some groups using the same filming location so we had to wait for them to finish filming and sometimes it ment we couldn't film because they were taking too long. For example the staff room, corridor, reading room etc.
  • We couldn’t film sometimes as some students were away and the weather was not too good as well.  
  • Memorising our lines for our scripts. 
Interesting
What interested you about this unit?
  • The editing process.  
  • Adding sound effects and music to our movies.  
  • Learning how professional film makers make movies and trying to develop their skills throughout the process of our film making experience.  
  • Learning the movie elements helped us to make our movies interesting to watch!

  • Solution
    How could we improve on this unit next time. 
  •   More flip-cams and tripods.  
  • Have the Imovie programme on our netbooks so that we could edit our movies instead of waiting for a group to finish.

Spooky Halloween Night

                                           Orientation:
One day in America two best friends lived in a big city named HollyWood. Sophie and Nikki loved  halloween and always played together they did everything like play and do each others makeup and if Nikki was upset Sophie would cheer her up by doing funny faces and being silly and tomorrow was halloween they were so excited  and they always went together when trick - or - treating . The next day was halloween Sophie yelled at nikki “ It’s halloween get up already nikki ”.

Sophie and Nikki always did everything together...

Problem :
They got dressed and headed off they came past this weird looking house  then Nikki said “hey let’s  go check that place out  Sophie !”  
Sophie replied “ sure then but don’t forget this was your idea”.  
Nikki replied “ yeah yeah whatever now come on !”. When they got to the house they knocked on the door and then a weird looking man appeared at the door  and said  “ what  do  you want ” he looked as if he was in a bad  mood and then Nikki said “ uh why do you think were here ! ”  
not soon after she said that the man said in a very cross voice  I will kill you in your sleep then Sophie and Nikki ran all the way home with terror.
Solution:
After that terrible halloween night they had told their parents about everything and they rang the police and told what street what house and the police had told the two friends  that they were safe and that they caught a criminal and murderer and their parents were relieved  those two little friends were safe .

Best firends

Today I read a story about dog finding a friend this story is a play. We are practicing our presentation skills as this will help us prepare for our movie making project next week.

The character I play in the story is Bear.dog was so sad that he just wanted a friend he keeped on cry that the other animals were annoyed.then he saw a rabbit he asked she could be her friend and she said of course i will be your friend ‘’but don’t eat me ok’’.So they went to rabbit's house and rabbit told dog where he is gane sleep so they lied to sleep. Dog was nosie  rabbit said what are you doing dog asked rabbit.Rabbit said can you be quiet before the wolves eat us ok.So he said i dont want a friend scrayed of wolves.so he went to wolves house.

The boy that nearly drowned

WALT write a narrative story based on our artwork.

One day there were two boys named Sam and Matt, who lived with their Dad. In the morning they brushed their teeth and packed their stuff to go to the beach. It was a hot sunny day. Sam and Dad were ready, but Mat was not ready at all, so they went and packed his stuff  as well. Finally they were all ready to go to the beautiful beach.   
                                                                                         
When they got there Sam dived straight away into the water. He felt refreshed and alive as soon as he dived in. He splished and splashed and jumped all over the place. All of a sudden Sam realised he had swum out too far. Sam started to panic. He was thrashing in the water which was making him weak. He knew from his swimming lessons at school not to panic. He stopped moving around and put his hand up out of the water, hoping his Dad and Matt would see him. His Dad saw him straight away and raced in the water to save him. The lifeguard saw what was happening and dived into to the water as fast as a cheetah. Sam knew to float on is back and wait to be rescued. The lifeguard reached him first and pulled him back to safety.

Sam was very happy to be alive. The lifeguard said he had done the right thing by floating on his back. Dad and Matt were happy too. They all went home knowing that Sam had used his head in the water and were grateful that he had learned how to stay safe in the water.
They went and they had a great great time at home with their Dad.

All About Me

Hello My name is Mele. I am 9 years old , I was born in New Zealand in 2002.I have short  curly hair,my skin colour is light brown and I also have bright shiny eyes.

I have 2 brothers, 2 beautiful sisters and 2 lovely parents. 


I am Tongan. In Tonga the sun is always up bright and early. When it gets to  the afternoon  the sun is sizzling hot. All Tongan people love the bule, clear beach and the pure, white sand.

I enjoy hanging  out with my spectacular family, and also  doing  chores at home.

My best friend  at  school is Lauren  because she is kind to me  and that's what I like about her.

When I grow up I want to be a teacher because I just want to  know the studets and I also  want to work as a doctor because  if one my family is sick I can help them get better

My learning goals for this year is to learn different spelling patterns to help me spell new words and extend my thinking by using a variety of thinking skills.
